Professor Tulsa Simpson
Professor Tulsa Simpson is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt under Professor Fredson Paixão, bringing more than 34 years of martial arts experience and over 26 years of coaching and instruction to the mats. His Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey began in Okinawa, Japan, where he trained under Professor Ivan Sakamoto, laying the foundation for a lifelong commitment to the art.
After retiring from a distinguished 20-year career in the United States Marine Corps, Professor Tulsa has dedicated himself to building Groundstone Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with a mission to develop technically sound grapplers while cultivating a culture of disciplined and confident individuals.
Known for his detail-oriented instruction and structured curriculum, Professor Tulsa believes that great Jiu-Jitsu is built through fundamentals, consistency, and purposeful repetition. Whether coaching a first-day white belt or preparing a competitor for the tournament stage, his focus remains the same: helping every student reach their highest potential through technical excellence and continuous growth.
Beyond the mats, Professor Tulsa is a devoted husband, father, mentor, and lifelong student of personal development. His leadership is shaped by decades of experience as a Marine, drill instructor, mechanic, bodybuilder, and martial artist, allowing him to connect with students from every walk of life.
At Groundstone BJJ, Professor Tulsa has built more than an academy alongside his wife he has built a community where students of all ages are challenged, supported, and inspired to become better martial artists and better people. His philosophy is simple:

Professor Bianca Simpson “B”
Professor Bianca Simpson is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt under Professor Fredson Paixão and serves as the Academy Director of Groundstone Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Working alongside her husband, Professor Tulsa, she helps turn their shared vision into reality by creating a welcoming, purpose-driven academy where students and families can grow together on and off the mats.
Since beginning her Jiu-Jitsu journey in 2017, Bianca has embraced the lifestyle with consistency, curiosity, and a passion for continuous growth. She believes Jiu-Jitsu has a unique way of revealing both strengths and weaknesses forcing improvement, giving every student the opportunity to develop discipline, perseverance, and character through the process.
Bianca works behind the scenes to keep Groundstone moving forward. From developing youth and adult programs to organizing camps, events, and community outreach. The focus is creating an exceptional experience for every family who walks through the doors. The Simpsons are committed to building programs that are intentional, organized, and accessible for students of all ages and experience levels.
Bianca has a background in substance abuse counseling and trauma recovery. She uses those experiences to influence her leadership, reinforcing her belief that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is about far more than learning techniques. It develops grit, accountability, humility, and meaningful relationships that extend well beyond the academy.
As a wife, mother, entrepreneur, athlete, and professor, Bianca understands the realities of balancing family, work, and personal goals. Her heart is to encourage others to keep showing up, trust the process, and discover what they're capable of through consistent training.
Together, Professors Tulsa and Bianca are committed to building more than a martial arts academy, they're building a community where people feel challenged, supported, and inspired to become the best version of themselves.
